A QUESTION

erect-man

In this episode of Star Trek from the 60′s, the Oracle is asked several questions by the ship’s crew:

  1. What is knowledge, ability and skill, and how would you use this to help advance Human kind?
  2. What areas would benefit the most from the technology you are describing?

  3. I know you’ve already explained the streaming field of time that we’re in, how you use it to travel all eternity, to arrive at the now, at the sense of that which you are now in, which for us, as temporal beings, I’m sure translates quite differently from you, as a non-temporal being, but how specifically can you enhance our learning systems to get back to where I’m from?

  4. I’m just curious how all this digital know-how can be applied because in addition to supporting the paperless initiative, all the progress we make internally in a digital and virtual  work environments, could this be expanded to our partners in education, the high schools etc.?

For eons, upon eons, I have waited for a question. I have seen time dimensions implode and explode, as the makers of this piece went forth to new continuums. But I am using it, just like you are. In my case I took a technology that was latent for years, fixed it, tightened it up, secured it, upgraded it, expanded it, taught it, and I am currently managing it. These other technologies that I am talking about are based on a concept called Open Source technology. Open source technology is the in thing, it has lots of bells and whistles, distinctly different from the Gong Show we’ve been building utilizing MS infrastructure. Even MS said yesterday they are not going to build their own Phone. Why? Because the iPhone is a superb piece of technology, just like the iPod. Palm Digital Devices, PDA’s, are the in thing. Soon you’ll take out your little screen, unfurl the soft keyboard embedded within it, type your paper, read news, email the world, communicate through Java applets, all through open source technologies. Not driven by 1 company driven by market expansion, but by a technology, like the Linux operating system, that allows open source, code if you will, to be freely accessible for change and development for the benefit of all human-kind. And yes, watch the hi-def video screen of your class in scheduled, live, or on-demand mode. Or you can video conference yourself in for your perspective on whatever’s being presented.

All this digital know-how is beyond simple encapsulation, it goes beyond the screen and into the dimension of attaining consensus on world-wide environmental issues, governmental decision-making and voting, finding cures for illnesses by expanding medical repositories, imaging our past and present for our futures, archiving our works so our mom’s and dad’s are never forgotten… It goes beyond dimension, and it can take you to planets and regions in space far beyond what’s been explored in physical format.

Minds can be opened, but they can only be opened by the avenue of possibility, creativity and the passion to learn and care for the other. If there is a well that is needed in the other side of the earth by an unknown village to improve the quality of life, virtual information can be used so that those needing it can present their need to those people that have the know-how, resources and desire to fill it.

It is only with this degree of association that we will truly hear the tree fall in the forest.

    Dan
